Eresources help: Ebooks

Reading ebooks online: Almost all ebook platforms have an online reader and you do not need to install any additional software. 

Ebook apps: ​Some platforms have an apps specifically designed for accessing the platform on mobile devices. Some of these apps are listed under Apps in the menu on the left.

Downloading ebooks on mobile devices

Step 1 Download the BlueFire Reader app from the App Store or Google Play. Bluefire Reader

Step 2 Authorise BlueFire Reader with your Adobe ID. If you don't have an Adobe ID, tap on "Create a free Adobe ID".

Step 3 Find an ebook in library search and sign in to access the ebook platform.

Step 4 Download or borrow the ebook.

Step 5 Tap on "Open in BlueFire Reader".

The ebook will start downloading.

Once the download is complete, the ebook will be ready to read.

Downloading ebooks on a Mac or Windows

Step 1 Download and install Adobe Digital Editions.

Step 2 Find an ebook in library search and sign in to access the ebook platform.

Step 3 Download or borrow the ebook.

For ProQuest Ebook Central click the "Download Book" button and then click on the download icon on toolbar at the top of the page.

For EBSCOhost ebooks click the "PDF Full Text link" and then click the "Full Download" button. If you are not already signed into EBSCOhost, click the "Sign In / Create Account" link. If you don't already have an EBSCO account, click the "Sign up" link. Otherwise sign in with your EBSCO account. This is not the same as your UniKey.

The ebook will start downloading in Adobe Digital Editions. If the ebook doesn't automatically start downloading in Adobe Digital Editions, open the .acsm file in your download folder.

Why use an ebook?

  • 24/7 access from anywhere anytime from desktop and mobile devices.

  • Interactive, for example you can create notes and highlight. On the ProQuest platform and BlueFire reader app.

  • Full text searching, can help you find sections and keywords quickly.

  • Portability, ebooks are much easier to carry than print books.

  • No need to worry about overdue fines or forgetting to return an ebook.
