What is Societal impact?

Societal impact can be broadly defined as the impact of academic research on broader aspects of society. It can be considered as a complement to both citation-based research metrics and altmetrics

The Australian Research Council (2017) refers to societal impact as "the demonstrable contribution that research makes to the economy, society, environment and culture beyond the contribution to academic research”.

The resources in this guide are intended as a useful list for the interested researcher and does not include a discussion of the wider topics involved. The aim is to help you create the relevant 'story' for your disciplinary context. The resources you select will be guided by what you need to demonstrate for promotion or funding.
