Ebook and database apps help guide: Reading online & download Ebooks offline

A basic guide for using the Library’s Ebooks

Reading Ebooks online : Online Reader is available on all Ebook platforms and requires no software other than an internet browser on your device. 

Ebook apps: ​Apps are designed to create easy access to databases on mobile devices. Use the Database Apps in the left hand menu for a list

Downloading Ebooks on tablets

Step 1: Download the app BlueFire Reader. Apple devices from the App Store, Android devices from Google Play store. Bluefire Reader

Step 2: Authorize the BlueFire Reader App with your Adobe ID. If you haven’t got an Adobe ID account click on ‘Create a free Adobe ID’.

Step 3: Find an Ebook on the library catalogue and login to access the Ebook platform.

Step 4: Download/Borrow the Ebook from the platform.

Step 5: BlueFire Reader has already been installed on your device from step 1. You will be given the option to open the Ebook through BlueFire Reader. Click on ‘Open in BlueFire Reader”


Step 9: The Ebook will start downloading onto your device

Step 10: Once download is complete, the Ebook will be ready to read on your device.

Downloading Ebooks on PC/MAC

Step 1: Before downloading an Ebook on PC/MAC, install Adobe Digital Edition. Follow the installation process.  

Step 2: Find an Ebook on the library catalogue and login to access the Ebook platform.

Step 3: Download the Ebook from the platform.

  • ProQuest Central users click on Full Download open the Ebook and click on the download icon on the top tool bar.

  • As seen in figure 1.0, EBSCO Ebook users will need to register an account with EBSCO. After you have registered for an account sign in and click on download this Ebook (offline).

Step 4: Checkout and download the Ebook. The file will open on Adobe Digital Edition program, as seen in figure 1.1.
