Media and Communications: Parliamentary & Government Information

Parliamentary Information for Media research

Parliamentary sources relate to many areas of journalism and media research. Parliaments enact laws, debate policy and proposed legislation. Parliaments also review, report on and investigate many policy issues through parliamentary committees. Parliamentary debates, reports from committees, bills digests may all provide information on significant changes in policy that would be important to political reporting. The federal and all state and territory parliaments disseminate a range of information via their websites.

The Parliamentary Library publishes research briefs and background papers for Parliamentarians. These publications include overviews of many topical issues. They are especially useful for locating background information on an unfamiliar policy or political area.

Additional resources and Information can be located in the Finding Australian Government Reports Guide.
