Whenever you use another person's ideas in your essays and assignments you must acknowledge it.  A reference identifies the source of the idea or quotation. If you're unsure what referencing style to use, check your course outline or ask your lecturer to identify which style is used for your Unit of Study.

The Harvard style is widely accepted in scientific publications.
