Referencing Tips

  • Reference consistently: don't switch referencing styles mid-assignment!
  • Reference thoroughly: acknowledge other people's ideas as well as direct quotations.
  • Reference as you go: inserting references after you've finished an assignment is time-consuming and frustrating!

Referencing Style

Hardvard 3

The Faculty of Health Sciences uses the Harvard 3 referencing style (this is a modified version of Harvard). Download the Faculty of Health Sciences Guide to presentation of assignments: undergraduate & postgraduate students.

APA 5th edition -- The American Psychological Association

The University of Melbourne website is a good starting point for guidance on using APA 5th. For more detailed information, see the manual in library, Publication manual of the American Psychological Association

Please note that different faculties use different referencing styles - it is always wise to confirm which referencing style to use with either your lecturer or tutor before submitting assignments!
