- Reference consistently: don't switch referencing styles mid-assignment!
- Reference thoroughly: acknowledge other people's ideas as well as direct quotations.
- Reference as you go: inserting references after you've finished an assignment is time-consuming and frustrating!
What is Plagiarism?
Plagiarism is when you claim someone else's work as your own.
The University of Sydney takes plagiarism very seriously. Plagiarism can result in failure of a subject or even expulsion from your course.

Harvard 3 Referencing Style
The Faculty of Health Sciences uses the Harvard 3 referencing style (this is a modified version of Harvard). Download the Faculty of Health Sciences Guidelines for presentation of assignments.
Please note that different Faculties (and sometimes different Disciplines within a Faculty) use different referencing styles - it is always wise to confirm which referencing style to use with either your lecturer or tutor before submitting assignments!
