Referencing Tips

  • Reference consistently: don't switch referencing styles mid-assignment!
  • Reference thoroughly: acknowledge other people's ideas as well as direct quotations.
  • Reference as you go: inserting references after you've finished an assignment is time-consuming and frustrating!

EndNote

EndNote is a piece of software which enables you to store and manage your references.

  • Download EndNote X2 (the latest version of EndNote).
  • View the library's online tutorial.
  • Discover other features of EndNote.

APA 5th Referencing Style

The Discipline of Occupational Therapy uses the Americal Psychological Association's referencing style (5th edition).

The University of Melbourne website is a good starting point for guidance on using APA 5th. For more detailed information, see the books listed below.

Please note that different faculties use different referencing styles - it is always wise to confirm which referencing style to use with either your lecturer or tutor before submitting assignments!
